Festivals
Miyazu being a major tourist city is filled with year-round events and festivals. Every season has a different kind of festival in Miyazu. Each is distinct in its own way. The city of Miyazu encourages everyone to not only watch, but to participate in these festivals. (Easy 67)
Aoi Festival (Hollyhock Festival)
The festival is held in Fuchu on April 24. There is always a display of the powerful and lively sword dance. A dance with a lion's mask is also always performed. (Easy 67)
Miyazu Latern Floating Fireworks Festival
This festival is celebratedon August 16 every year. This festival was born of the ancient practice of welcoming ancestors back to the human world with lanterns during the holiday Obon, the Miyazu Lantern Festival is now one of the area's main summer events. Throughout the festival, Miyazu dances and dance contests take place on Honcho Avenue and Shimasaki Park, and on the 2nd and 3rd days children's kabuki performances by geisha are happening which earn the greatest popularity. The main feature of the festival is the great lantern display and fireworks festival which are held on the final evening. The waters of Miyazu bay becomes covered with spirit ships and more than 10,000 torches, as an array of fireworks paint the night sky. The sky is glittered as the city becomes illuminated. Other festivals in Miyazu include the Monju Outgoing-Ship Festival on July 24, and the Mid-winter wooden rowing boat race. (Easy 67)
