The city of Miyazu is located in the center of the Tango district of the Kyoto prefecture. (Travel time from Delray Beach is about 19-20hrs.) The Kyoto Prefecture as a whole is said to be the "historical, cultural and industrial mecca of Japan." The Kyoto Prefecture is located in the center of Japan's main island, Honshu. The prefecture extends from the Japan Sea in the north to Nara and Osaka in the south. The prefecture has a population of 2.6 million, making Kyoto the 13th largest of Japan's 47 prefectures. (Kyoto)
The topography of the Kyoto Prefecture consists of lush, green, rolling mountains and clear blue sea. These mountains include Hiei Mountains and Kasagi Mountains. Mixed with the Kyoto Basin, the riverside of Uji, and the Sea of Japan, the climate of the Kyoto Prefecture is just as diverse as its topography. (Kyoto Mini)With Kyoto City as the cultural capital of Japan, Kyoto Prefecture has become the cradle of Japanese art and culture. (Kyoto)
Miyazu City is a major tourist resort area. It is located right on the Miyazu Bay.Combining its wonderful view of both the mountains and the sea, Miyazu is perfect during all seasons. Miyazu experiences all four seasons with a distinct "rainy season" and "snowy season." Miyazu occasionally receives three meters of snow during the winter. The climate of Miyazu is heavily guided by its natural surroundings. The Tango Mountain range influences Miyazu's weather like many other northern cities of Kyoto. (Kyoto Mini)
Miyazu is an important natural sea-port to the Kyoto Prefecture. One of its largest industries is the fishing industry. (Kyoto Mini)This industry is unique to Miyazu given the mountainous landscape of the Kyoto Prefecture. Miyazu as a city closely resembles a niche inbetween towering mountains. Wherever there is a plot of flat land, civilization quickly sprouts.
Miyazu is best known for the Amanohashidate. It is known as the Floating Bridge to the Heavens. The Amanohashidate is part of the "scenic tio" of Japan. Its unique combination of white sand, ancient pine trees, and water clarity is what gives the Amanohashidate its appeal and mystical feel. The Amanohashidate is a naturally occuring sand-bar that is about 2 miles long and 200 feet wide. It is covered with 8000 pine trees. Through the middle there is a bicycle trail. This allows citizens and tourists to bike across the Amanohashidate from one "head" to the next. During the summer, the Amanohashidate is a never-ending path of green. During the winter, the Amanohashidate is complimented by the famous Japanese cherry Blossoms. It is truly a breath-taking site.(Delray)
